Application procedure for returning students with good standing

Select a course

Please select a course based on the following information: the most recent course taken at our program, your recommended course, and your most recent contest scores. (It is important to update your academic information in your account. Up to date academic information will help us to work with you during the placement process.)

For more information about our curriculum, visit the academic grid (link) for more information. You are also welcome to consult our academic staff regarding course selection via email to info@ideamath.org -- please make sure to put the email subject in the following form:

Payment options

In your account, there are various payment options for you to choose. If you choose the option to pay (by credit card online or via regular mail by check)for both the application fee and tuition, then will be enrolled in the program corresponding to the tuition payment. If you choose the option to pay (via credit card online or via regular mail by check) for the application fee only, we will process your application and will send you an admission notice (via email) and then you can either login to your account to make the tuition payment by credit card online (the tuition payment option will be available in your account) or mail the tuition check. Application procedure for all other applicants

Create your account

Make sure to input detailed academic information (age, grade level/graduation year, math course taken in school, contest info (rounds and scores, not ranks)) in your account. Up to date academic information will help us to work with you during the placement process. (Please see program FAQ Q7.)

Select a course

Please read the academic grid (grid) and placement policy (Q7) for more information. Based on the course the applicant intends to take, the applicant will be asked to take a certain on-site placement test. Our academic team members will review each student's course selection and the student's overall mathematical background information in his or her account. If our academic team members see a potential mismatch, they will communicate with the applicant to decide the course/placement test that will best suit the applicant. Applicants are also welcome to consult our academic staff regarding course selection via email to info@ideamath.org -- please make sure to put the email subject in the following form:

An application will consist of the following:

  • Student Short Essay - Write a page on a topic or an activity that you are passionate about.(waived for returning students)
  • A Letter of Recommendation from a school teacher.(waived for returning students)
  • Application fee ($30)

*Applicants are considered as a returning student if he/she was in our summer, weekend or winter programs within the last 15 months.

Submitting application material

  • Student Short Essay
    An applicant who is new to our program should write 200-300 words on an activity in which the applicant is passionate about. Please include your name and ID number in your essay (for example, John Doe (ID 1234)).
  • Letter of Recommendation from a school teacher
    Recommendation letters must be completed by your current school teachers, preferably your math teacher. The letter should address the studentís learning interests, study habits, peer relations, and ability to follow instructions. The teacher can use his/her own format, or use our standard form
  • Application fee ($30) can be sent by check or paid by credit card online.

The studentís essay and teacherís recommendation letter can be emailed to

info@ideamath.org.

Please ensure that the subject line contains the studentís full name and (preferably) ID number (for example: Short Essay for John Doe (ID 1234)).

Admission and tuition payment

After we receive your materials, we will process the materials and certain status in your account will be updated. (For example, status codes like A Ė for admitted, I-E Ė for missing essay, etc.) Please login to your account to see the updates. When you are admitted, you will also receive an email about your admission. and tuition payment option will be available in your account. You can either login to your account to make the tuition payment by credit card online (the tuition payment option will be available in your account) or you can mail the tuition check.
